Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP)

The Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP) is a non-profit organization that certifies printing and packaging facilities and their suppliers’ sustainability best practices. Certification involves publicly available, industry-specific criteria and third-party auditors.

SGP was created by the printing industry specifically for the printing industry, and takes into account the entire print facility and supply chain—its process, product, and social responsibility.

Seven of our facilities are currently SGP-certified. We are continuing to work on certifying additional facilities and reviewing our suppliers for certification.

Science Based Targets initiative

Through the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), DCM’s near-term science-based targets for reducing our greenhouse gas emissions have been officially validated.

We plan to reach our 2030 target of a 44% reduction in absolute scope 1 and scope 2 GHG emissions through a number of actions, including consolidating and closing manufacturing facilities, investing in new equipment, and purchasing renewable energy credits. Through renewable energy credits, we’re supporting the development of renewable energy infrastructure that is expected to become an increasingly important part of Canada’s electricity grid.

Forest Stewardship Council

The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) is an international non-profit organization that promotes responsibly managed forests via timber certification.

DCM has been FSC-certified since 2007. Using FSC-certified paper is an important way we help maintain sustainable supply chains.

FSC-certified forests also maintain and conserve forest ecosystem services; uphold the rights of indigenous peoples; and maintain high conservation values.

Our lighting retrofit

To support our SBTi targets for carbon reduction, DCM is undergoing an extensive lighting retrofit at our facilities across Canada.

Older lighting is being replaced with new, energy-efficient technology—reducing our energy consumption, and helping us lower our greenhouse gas emissions.

Clear ESG targets

Less carbon

We have received validation by SBTi of our near-term target to reduce our scope 1 and scope 2 GHG emissions 44% by 2030 (compared to 2020).

Supply chain partners

Our target of having 75% of our suppliers by spend (covering purchased goods and services, and upstream transportation and distribution) implement science-based targets by 2026 has been validated by SBTi.

More trees

We will continue to make reforestation a priority and expect the Moore Canada acquisition will contribute to growth in our annual reforestation efforts—we were responsible for reforesting 716,000 trees in 2023 alone.

Good governance

As a publicly traded company, we meet the highest standards of corporate accountability and information security.

Continual improvement

We have implemented a procurement process enhancement that:

  • Enables our enterprise resource planning (ERP) system to easily identify raw material SKUs, from over 9,000 paper and label materials, based on their sustainability attributes
  • Has established reporting and traceability guidelines necessary for many of our ESG-related programs
